The i-connect project is a unique and multi-dimensional effort designed to intensify the significance of Israel in connecting Pittsburgh Jews to Judaism, community, the Jewish State and the Jewish people.
Through i-connect Pittsburgh Jews are able to experience a greater connection to Israel as a source for enhanced Jewish meaning. i-connect addresses the concerns of Jewish continuity based on the assumption that a stronger connection and love of Israel will dramatically increase the level of commitment to Jewish life and community. This connection is, in turn, fostered through knowledge of Israeli life and history and experiences which give meaning to the bond between Israel and the Jewish people.
i-connect integrates both formal and informal Israel educational programming into existing institutions in the community so knowledge and experiences with Israel become part of the fabric of Jewish learning throughout the community.
i-connect is sponsoring the following programs and projects in Pittsburgh:
Junior Community Shaliach - a community resource to bring Israel to Pittsburgh teens and young adults by creating enthusiasm and increased travel to Israel.
i-connect Israel Scholarship Program - increased subsides and number of available scholarships for Israel teen travel.
Community-wide Israel Events - such as Israel's Memorial Day, Independence Day and Pittsburgh Folk Festival programs.
Maps of Israel - all day schools and synagogue schools have been provided large, laminated maps of Israel for their classrooms as a first step to enrich the community with resources on Israel.
Development of a Brand - created the banner of i-connect under which all community Israel activity can be marketed.
Personality Cards - a deck of 57 personalities with description, time line, map and colorful image to be used as gateways to introduce a multitude of Israel related topics.
Mobile Israel Activity Center - self contained box that will bring artifacts of Israeli culture, history and contemporary life, complete with an activity guide for classroom use.
